As a tutor, do you believe in first impressions and how they can change the odds? If so, you must put a lot of thought into building a professional resume because, in most cases, this is the resume that gives the first impression to the employer or client.

Chronological Tutor Resume Format

The focus of a chronological resume is on your work experience. You should precisely state your job title, duration, and location of your previous positions in reverse chronological order, i.e., starting with the most recent position.

For each position, mention a skill or quality that contributed to more productivity. By answering the following questions, you can describe your role effectively:

  • What did I do differently to fulfil my responsibility?
  • What did I achieve in this position?
  • What did the previous employer miss the most about me?

Bear in mind to describe the qualities that make you a better candidate for the position you’re applying for.

Let’s take a look at a chronological tutoring CV example.

Cheat note:

Put yourself in the employer’s shoes. What kind of person can make your tutoring business blossom?

If I were to recruit a tutor, I’d look for a confident, articulate, knowledgeable person with a passion for teaching.

Functional Tutor Resume Format

Functional resumes are more straightforward and focus on the relevant skills for the job offer. Actually, “Skills” are mentioned before “Professional Experiences” in the resume.

The functional resume format is more suitable for novice tutors or tutors with no consistent work history.

You don’t need to worry about the chronological order, and there is no need to mention the date or duration of the previous positions.

The part where you highlight your work experience can be tricky for novice tutors. You can point to volunteering jobs or freelance tutoring but DO NOT inflict the resume with falsification.

How To Describe Tutor on Resume

Targeted Tutor Resume Format

Bluntly speaking, targeted resumes are meant to please the recruiter by reflecting exactly what they’re looking for in your resume. That is, you base the resume details on the job description you’re applying for.

So, If your educational background, experiences, and skills closely match the job description, the targeted CV for tutoring is your best choice.

Professional Summary plays a crucial role in target resumes since it should be customised to match the required qualifications.

Job descriptions for tutors can give you valuable clues about what to say in a targeted resume. For example, if you want to become an online tutor, you should highlight your digital skills and point to your proficiency in using the common online apps and tools used in online tutoring.

Finally, since targeted resumes are customised for each position, you should be careful if you want to send a single resume to different recruiters.

Cheat note:

Research the position and the company you’re applying for, and make a list of the frequently used words. Recruiters use an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) that identifies the keywords and elevates the resume accordingly. By using the common keywords in tutoring resumes, you can increase your chances of winning the position. This information will also come in handy later in the interview.

Combined Tutor Resume Format

This resume format combines chronological and featured resumes. It’s suitable for an in-depth representation of your skills and experiences.

What’s important here is to keep the descriptions brief and concise. A combined resume format is meant to include more qualifications rather than an extensive description of a single qualification or work experience.

Plus, you should know that recruiters don’t spend much time studying the resume, and more often than not, they just read the Professional Summary and skim the rest.

My story as an English content producer and copywriter began ironically in the 7th grade when I failed English. My parents, concerned about my educational prospects, enrolled me in an English course, and thanks to motivating teachers, the fun learning environment, and, of course, my own efforts, I grew fond of English as the subject to pursue in university. I studied English Language and Literature for my BA, and my interest in the subject increased even further. After graduating with a BA degree from the University of Isfahan, I continued my education in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). I received my MA degree in TEFL from the Isfahan University of Technology. All the while, I was engaged in expanding my knowledge of the culture of native English speakers by reading novels, listening to English podcasts, and watching English movies. Consequently, my efforts brought me to where I am now: a skilled English content producer. I hope my content helps you make better decisions.
